Don’t make a joke, better than the product

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]You’ve probably all seen the new Pedigree ad now showing in the UK.

It’s certainly humorous yes.

But doggy dentures…”you’re joking right?”

I’m certainly not.

Why we think Wieden & Kennedy are successful

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]Everybody wanting to get into advertising will only look and admire at some of the work that comes out of Wiedens.

We still do.

There’s obviously a reason for their success. In our opinion, it’s not just that they have great ideas, but they create good ideas. They’re trendsetters.

By this, we mean as well doing the basics right such as print ads and tv ads, they create new innovations.

Whether this is down to good relationships with clients, or open budgets, who knows.

But for some agencies around the world, if a creative team said “we want to create a machine that writes peoples tweets out in chalk as it drives on the roads of the Tour De France” many would dismiss it as they wouldn’t think it’s possible. Wiedens don’t do that.

It’s all gone Facebook

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]Name 10 websites you visit regularly.

For most of us, we’ll say Facebook, Google, an email provider and Amazon (even though we don’t visit it that often) and then we’ll struggle to remember any others.

It’s why a lot of brands are taking their website onto Facebook.

And maybe one of the main reasons they do this is that they save money?

Ideas that sell

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]Think of a insurance comparison website. Think of a money lending service. And think of a website you’d go to if you were trying to sell your car.

For most of you, you’ve probably thought of Go Compare, Wonga and We Buy Any Car.com

Why? Well it seems whilst every brand is trying to have conversation with their consumers, the brands that shout their message are winning.

New Years Resolutions for 2011

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]Last year we set ourselves a New Years resolution for 2010. It was ultimately to get hired, which we achieved in September this year when Crayon offered us a job.

So after much discussion, we’ve decided on 2 new resolutions for 2011.

1) To win another award (or 2)

2) To create something that gets everyone talking

It’s been a good year, if a little bit tough at times. But we’re finally in the industry and no longer sleeping on a wooden floor, so onwards and upwards as they say. Wish us luck.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The best viral videos of 2010

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]

As the year draws to a close, we’ve put together a top 10 of 2010 for a few things including TV, digital and virals.

Here’s our top 10 virals for 2010.

10) Chat Roulette – The Last Exorcism

One to make the wanking men wince at. The Last Exorcism had a terrific campaign that ‘tricked’ users into thinking they were going to get a bit of nipple.

The best TV ads of 2010

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]

As the year draws to a close, we’ve put together a top 10 of 2010 for a few things including TV, digital and virals.

Here’s our top 10 of TV ads for 2010.

10) Our 10th favourite saw one of the first 3DTV ads come from Samsung and they executed it really well. It wasn’t a ground breaking idea but they did it in style and it’s wonderful to watch.

Who do you sell to? The client or the customer?

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]After a recent gathering with friends over drinks, it emerged that people work and create ideas to constantly please the client. And it’s becoming more common.

Everyday, there are ideas out there getting changed to suit the client – so they’ll understand it, and more importantly like it.

People are continually trying to make the client happy. They think that if you do work that the client likes, then they’ll be respected more by them.

Wrong.

You know it’s Christmas when…

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false]No. Not when you hear the Coca Cola advert. They’ve totally messed that one up.

Their original advert was amazing and when the consumers asked for it back they still didn’t replicate it the way we wanted to.

In our opinion they’ve lost the Christmas advertising spot. Now, it’s all about the Irn Bru snowman advert.

That’s when you know it’s Christmas.

Do we overintellectualize advertising?

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false] On a recent visit home, I met with my friends where we had plenty to catch up on. Now obviously working in advertising causes one of your mates’ to bring up the ‘have you seen that ad?’ conversation.

Listening to them, they brought up some interesting points and those points have inspired this blog post.

All the thinking and all the clever stuff behind the idea can be wasted on those who watch it. They see what they see. Unless they are like you and us, and want to destruct the thinking of an advertisement when you see one, then there’s a good chance they won’t analyse it. To them, it’s just a disruption.
