A great year of experience

[tweetmeme source=”adamanddan” only_single=false] It’s been officially a year since we graduated and we’ve got a great year of experience behind us.

When we graduated, it was unfortunately in the middle of a recession. Many agencies weren’t hiring and we certainly couldn’t afford to move down to the big smoke straight away.

It was with this, that we decided to set up our own agency. Bonkers eh? We set up with @shib88 who is now a planner at Crayon on the Sony account. Our agency was called 3 Monkeys No Banana and we managed to get a few clients including Staffordshire University students union, UK Wide Letting Agents and Sofa Design with work going live for each. We got to work with clients, deadlines, suppliers and developers giving us further insight into the industry, just from another point of view.

After a few months it was clear we still had a lot to learn and industry was the way forward for us. We bagged a placement at WAA in Birmingham for 3 months working on Baxi, Graham + Brown and 3M before moving down to the big smoke.

In London we were giving a placement working at Rabbit and Cow for just over 4 months gaining valuable experience in social media, digital, PR and experiential advertising. We had work go live for BMI Baby, One Poll and Practical action aswell as contributing ideas to win new business for Rabbit. We were also involved on the Burger King and Heinz accounts throughout our time at Cow.

Just over a month ago we also found out we had gained a YCN award for our Feel Good Drinks idea which ironically, made us Feel Good.

We’re now about to start our next placement at Crayon, a data driven digital agency in Cental London and really excited to add to the experience we’ve already gained.

It’s been a great first year in industry and apart from sleeping on a floor for the last six months, we wouldn’t change it. We still remain determined to get that first job.
